Q: I want to paint a bed. Which collection is suitable for painting an old wooden bed?

A: Any Frenchic collection is suitable for painting interior surfaces and furniture. Just choose the right shade and tin size. Click here to choose a shade.

Q: The Frenchic collection has beautiful shades. How were they chosen?

A: Thank you. Frenchic is an English paint collection featuring old, historic shades selected to complement the color palette of matte wallpapers by British designers such as William & Morris. Lots of muted, smoky interior shades.

Q: How much does it cost to tint Frenchic paints?

A: Frenchic paints have no added tinting charges. Considering that our paints already contain primer and often only need two coats, Frenchic offers excellent value for money.

Q: How much coverage does the paint provide?

A: One 2.5-liter tin of wall paint covers about 17m2 with two coats, enough for a couple of smaller walls or one larger one. For painting the cabinets in a typical family kitchen, 3 x 750ml tins of paint are often enough. If you paint the inside of the cabinets, you'll need more paint. One small 250ml tin of Frenchic paint is enough to paint a couple of kitchen chairs or a bedside table. Our paints already contain primer, so when calculating coverage and costs, you only need to factor in Frenchic paint.

Q: When will the new Frenchic color charts be available?

A: Our color collection has grown by several shades, and the color charts haven't kept up with the changes! We recommend ordering P&S color cards made with 100% real paint and visiting your nearest Frenchic retailer to see the colors in person. No new color charts are planned in the near future, but there are new shades. Join our email list to be among the first to hear about new arrivals!

Q: What makes these paints special?

A: Frenchic paints, for example, already include primer. Our paints are so-called hybrid paints, which are tested and suitable for many different surfaces, such as wood, metal, plastic, MDF, and ceramic tiles. One can, many projects.

Q: How much paint do I need to paint a chest of drawers?

A: A 500 ml or 750 ml can is enough to paint a standard chest of drawers. Paint coverage is given in square metres, so calculate the area to be painted and multiply it by two, because you’ll be applying two coats. You can read more about paint coverage here.

Q: Can you paint melamine / plastic surfaces? IKEA-style furniture? Is primer needed? How long does it take to dry?

A: Yes, you can, as long as the surface is thoroughly cleaned and sanded. Primer is not needed in most cases. Frenchic paints already include primer. Frenchic paints are touch-dry quickly. You can carefully start using the item about 48 hours after painting, and the paint takes about three weeks to fully cure. The key to durability is preparation and following the instructions. Instructions for painting melamine, laminate, and MDF furniture can be found here.

Q: Do you really need to apply two coats? I painted a wall, and the first coat already looks really good and covers well.

A: It’s best to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. A second coat evens out the surface beautifully and reproduces the shade as the manufacturer intended. The paint is also fully washable when you paint according to the instructions. Our wall paint has won multiple tests and has been named the best washable wall paint, for example.

Q: Can you paint kitchen cabinets without primer?

A: In short: Yes, when you use a paint range that includes primer, such as Frenchic. Frenchic paints already have primer in them. You save time on the work, drying time, and material costs. However, if you want to use primer with Frenchic paints, first make sure that the products you choose are compatible. You can read more about whether primer is needed here.

Q: Can you paint kitchen countertops too?

A: We don’t recommend it, but many people have painted theirs. So in principle, you can also paint a countertop. Please note that a painted countertop will never be as durable as an unpainted one! An oiled countertop cannot be painted durably with water-based paints such as Frenchic.

Countertops often have to withstand heavy use, cleaning, and wear. Moisture around the sink must always be wiped away immediately, and a cutting board is essential when chopping anything. A painted surface won’t withstand hot dishes the way a solid wood surface can. If you decide to paint, be prepared to repaint as needed based on wear and use.

Painting a countertop is something you should always consider carefully, and it largely depends on how you use your kitchen.

Q: Can you paint plastic veneer, MDF surfaces, or the plastic coating on furniture with Frenchic paints?

A: Yes, you can! You can paint your Swedish furniture, chests of drawers, and even coated kitchen cabinets and other furniture with our paints. Read the instructions and tips for painting laminate surfaces here.

Q: Do you have tile paint? I’d like to paint the walls in my utility room and downstairs toilet.

A: Yes, we do! You can now use our gorgeous colors on your old tiles: Al Fresco  and our wall paint range  have been officially tested by the manufacturer as paints for tiles  and ceramic tiles. Read the instructions for painting tiles here.

Q: Where can I find painting instructions for kitchen cabinets and exterior doors?

A: You’ll find all kinds of instructions in the Painting Guides and Tips section. It’s worth scrolling all the way to the bottom, where there’s plenty of useful information.

The most popular painting guides on our site are:

Q: Can you paint a floor? And what paint should you use?

A: Yes, you can paint a wooden floor in most cases. And now you can use all the gorgeous shades from our wall paint range to paint your wooden floor, from rose pinks to deep blues and greens! Our wall paint has been officially tested by the manufacturer for painting wooden floors, and is fully washable once dry. Consider how much wear the floor gets based on its location and your family’s use: hallway floors often get heavy wear, while bedroom floors usually don’t. Pets’ claws, sand, and shoe soles all wear down floor surfaces. You can read the wooden floor painting instructions here.

Q: Can sauna paneling be painted?

A: We do not recommend using Frenchic paints in saunas.

Q: How much paint, wax, or finishing coat do I need?

A: The coverage stated by the manufacturer can be found on the side of the tin and on the product page on our website. Coverage is stated for a smooth, non-absorbent surface.

Q: What paint is suitable for window frames?

A: In short: for the exterior, use weather-resistant paint Al Fresco, and for interior window frames, any of our ranges are suitable, including in unheated spaces.

Tip for a brush for painting window frames and restoring windows: The long-handled, round Pro Artisan Blue brush is perfect for painting narrow trim, and is suitable for all types of paint.

A mohair roller is also suitable for oil-based paints, making it easy to achieve a smooth, beautiful finish.

Q: Can ceramic tiles or tiles be painted?

A: Yes, you can, and now you have lovely Frenchic shades for painting tiles! Of the paints in the Frenchic range, the Al Fresco range and the Wall Paint range have been officially tested for painting ceramic tiles on interior surfaces in the home, such as kitchen backsplashes, utility rooms, or small bathrooms. There are some limitations: painting is not recommended in areas with standing water or on floor tiles. Read the detailed instructions for painting tiles here.

Q: How much paint do I need to paint kitchen cabinets? We have a standard two-room apartment kitchen.

A: Frenchic goes a long way and will surprise you: start with one 750 ml tin (or two 500 ml tins of Trim Paint). You can usually paint the cabinet doors in a larger family kitchen with 2-3 750 ml tins.

According to the manufacturer, 750 ml covers approximately 13.5 m², and 500 ml of Trim Paint covers 7 m².

Q: Is it really true that the same paint is suitable for wood, metal, and tiles?

A: Yes, the Al Fresco range is a so-called hybrid paint, tested by the manufacturer on a variety of surfaces. In addition, weather-resistant Al Fresco paint contains UV protection: colors that won’t yellow or fade, and an anti-mold agent, so you can use it to paint garden furniture or an exterior door.

Our wall paint range is also officially suitable for tiles, and comes in a 2.5-liter container for larger projects.  Read more about painting tiles here.

Q: Who can use these paints, and who is the range designed for?

A: Our award-winning Frenchic paint is used by everyday DIYers, craftspeople, and renovators around the world, as well as professional painters, carpenters, and designers who appreciate the quality of small brands over mass-produced and cheap products. Our paints can be used for small furniture painting projects at home or larger renovations at home or in businesses, from a small allotment cottage to a log villa in Lapland and a summer cottage in the archipelago, from city homes to postwar houses and modern stone houses. The Frenchic range is designed to finally make renovating easier and faster, while saving on material costs, paint waste, and labor time. Our customers often include those who value both recycling and our historical color collection, as well as easy painting the Frenchic way.

Q: What makes these paints so special?

A: Hybrid paint means paint that has been officially tested for suitability on a range of different surface materials: it helps reduce waste in your renovation.

          • The adhesion primer in our paints saves you material costs: no more extra products.
          • Fast drying time saves you time: your project can be finished the same day, and you no longer have to wait until the next day for the paint to dry before applying the next coat.
          • Self-leveling properties save your nerves: you’ll succeed and achieve a beautiful result without visible lap marks or heavy brush strokes.
          • Protective properties eliminate the need for a topcoat in many cases, as the protective agents are already in the paint.
          • Historical colors and non-yellowing light shades work well together, creating a harmonious space indoors or out.
          • Odorless and non-toxic is a plus for home renovations, along with excellent coverage and yield.

Try out the special features for yourself.

Q: Does paint need to be mixed? I shook the can before opening it. Isn't that enough?

A: Shaking isn't enough to evenly distribute the heavy color pigment throughout the paint.

          • Mixing the paint is one of the most important steps in painting projects.
          • The paint's important protective ingredients are evenly distributed throughout when mixed.
          • The color will only look right when mixed.
          • The paint covers better when mixed.
          • The paint achieves its proper durability when its ingredients are evenly mixed throughout.
          • Mix the paint by hand with a wide spatula, carefully scraping the sides and bottom.
          • Or use a drill mixer

Q: Do I really have to prepare the surface before painting?

A: Don't believe claims that you don't need to do any surface preparation before painting!

          • Frenchic paints have excellent adhesion. That's why it's important to remove anything 'extra' between the paint and the surface, so the paint can adhere properly to the surface - and not to a layer of dirt.
          • So always paint only a clean surface and at least roughen the surface - this will also give you a beautiful, durable result.

Q: What does the ISO Class 1 rating mean for wall paint?

A: ISO 11998 Class 1 wet scrub resistance is the highest possible rating. Our ultra-matte wall paint is not just wipeable, but fully washable once dry. This makes the wall paint range practical for both kitchens and hallways - at home and in businesses. Our wall paint has also been officially tested for durability on wood floors and ceramic tiles. The Tuff Top Coat finishing coating has the same ISO rating (suitable for interior and exterior surfaces).

Q: What exactly is Frenchic Finland?

A: Frenchic Finland is a Finnish company and an online store based in Finland. We have been awarded the Key Flag Symbol, which indicates that the company is 100% Finnish. Although we sell English paint and products from elsewhere in Europe and further afield, we select products for Finnish consumers, DIY painters, builders, renovators, and professionals based on quality approved by professionals.

Several of the brands we represent have won awards and recognition, such as the Two Fussy Blokes painting supplies range, recommended by the Finnish Painters' Association, and Frenchic, which has been voted the best paint in Britain several times.

Frenchic Finland is based in Tampere, and you can now also shop at our Tampere Warehouse Store. For eight years, Frenchic Finland has been bringing the Frenchic paint range from England to Finland. Welcome to finally paint more easily!

Q: Can your paints be used in a paint sprayer?

A: Yes, you can. For spray painting, thin the paint with clean water at the ratio recommended for your equipment, then apply several thin coats. Paint consumption is often higher when spray painting. Since Frenchic paints have excellent self-levelling properties, you can also achieve a beautiful, even finish on home projects using a brush and roller.

Q: What does knot bleed mean?

A: When we talk about tannin bleed, we mean a yellowish discoloration of the paint. Some types of wood, such as oak, tropical hardwoods, and softwoods, release natural extractives that may stain a new coat of paint. Some wood stains or prolonged exposure to nicotine can also cause tannin bleed, especially with light and white shades. You can easily prevent extractives from showing through: If you’re planning to paint in a light shade, prime the knot or preferably the entire surface with Finishing Coat, which slows yellowing, seals the knot, and prevents extractives from rising to the paint surface. Al Fresco paints also slow staining from extractives. For this reason, we recommend using a grey Al Fresco shade as a primer, such as Swankypants or City Slicker. This step isn’t necessary with dark topcoat colors, as tannin bleed doesn’t show through dark colors.

Q: How long do paints and coatings keep?

A: All our paints and coatings have a shelf life of at least 12 months, and up to 24 months unopened, as long as they’re kept away from even brief fluctuations in extreme temperatures. Even if you’ve already opened the tins, you can store the paint for a long time, as long as air can’t get into the tin and dry it out. It’s important to make sure no dirt, renovation dust, or, for example, pollen gets into the paint when painting outdoors. We recommend always using a clean brush and paint tray or scuttle. Remember to close the paint tin immediately after use to prevent the paint from drying out. Small amounts of leftover paint can be stored in clean screw-top jars. Remember to seal the jars tightly, too. We recommend storing paint in a cool (frost-free), dry, dark place.

Q: What’s the best way to clean brushes and rollers?

A: Brushes and rollers should be cleaned immediately after painting. Once the paint has dried, it is much harder to remove. Use a bucket of lukewarm water and, if necessary, mild soap. Avoid strong cleaning products. It’s best to hang the tools up to dry: hang brushes with the bristles facing down so water doesn’t run back into the ferrule. Don’t put tools on a warm radiator to dry, as this can affect their quality.

Q: Can I wash and wipe down a painted surface?

A: Once the paint has fully dried and cured, you can wipe surfaces as usual with a damp cloth and use mild cleaning products. Avoid chlorine and disinfectants, as well as abrasive cleaning tools (magic erasers, etc.).

Q: How well does paint adhere to dirty surfaces, and how does it hold up to heavy wear?

A: We only select colors with excellent properties. Durability is also a key factor in sustainability and reusing old items. But even the best paint isn’t invulnerable, and surface wear increases with use. Paint durability depends on many factors, and you can do a lot to improve it: follow our painting and cleaning instructions and protect the paint from scratches. If you repaint surfaces because the previous finish had worn away, the new paint will also be subject to wear with the same use. Repainting is a normal part of maintaining heavily used surfaces or surfaces that have been scratched. Even if paint seems to adhere to a dirty surface, it won’t bond fully and therefore won’t last as well as it would on a clean surface.

Q: How soon can you place furniture and plant pots on a painted surface, or walk on a painted wooden floor?

A: Our paints are touch-dry within a few hours, but continue to cure for three weeks. Of course, you can use painted furniture before then. Just be a little more careful during the first few weeks and avoid heavy use. You can place lightweight items on painted surfaces 24-48 hours after painting, depending on the weight of the items. Use felt pads to protect the paint beneath plant pots and other items. You can walk on painted floors in your socks after about 24 hours. You can place thin rugs or fabrics over frequently used areas during the first few weeks to protect the paint. However, remove them at night to let the paint cure properly. Don’t scratch-test the paint with your fingernails. Give the paint time to cure and enjoy the result! The thicker the coat of paint, the longer it takes to cure. Even after 14 days, the paint film continues to cure day by day. Wall paints also cure over time. You’ll notice a huge difference in durability when you let the paint dry according to the instructions.

Q: How soon can I apply a Finishing Coat or furniture wax over the paint?

A: No sooner than 48 hours later.

Q: Can paint be diluted to preserve the wood grain?

A: Yes, you can. For example, you can paint yellowed round logs with our white wall paint diluted with water and achieve a bright, fresh look for the walls. However, diluting the paint too much can reduce its durability on surfaces and furnishings subject to wear. If you’re painting a surface that gets a lot of wear with diluted paint, such as a staircase or tabletop, we don’t recommend this method unless you protect and finish the surface, for example with a Finishing Coat.

Q: What does overworking paint mean?

A: It’s a bit like applying nail polish: you can’t touch up freshly applied nail polish without leaving unsightly marks. So let the first coat dry completely before applying the next one. If you keep rolling over the same area for a long time, the paint will start to dry and lift off. The same thing happens if you use a brush to touch up and paint “just a little more over there” on paint that has already started to dry. So apply the paint and let it dry before applying the next coat. Frenchic paints have short drying times between coats, so you can apply the next coat soon.

Q: How can I get an even paint finish without brush marks?

A: To achieve an even finish, you need to use enough paint, apply it with a consistent technique, and work at a suitable speed. The best method is to paint each area once, lightly and without pressure. If the finish is still uneven, you can smooth it out with the next coat. Frenchic paints dry very quickly, so avoid overworking paint that is in the process of drying. The first coat doesn’t need to provide full coverage or look perfect. The next coat will work its magic.

Q: Can I choose products from different manufacturers for the same painting project?

A: Would you like to mix paints from different manufacturers? Since Frenchic paints haven’t been officially tested with other brands, we can’t guarantee the result or assess the durability. If you wish, you can use a primer from another manufacturer, as long as you make sure the products are suitable for water-based paints such as Frenchic. Note: Our products are designed to work perfectly together. When you combine them with products from other brands, unfortunately we can’t influence or guarantee the result. We recommend using and mixing only shades and products from the same manufacturer and the same quality range. Test before starting a larger project.

Q: How many coats should I apply? Is one coat enough?

A: Two coats, at least. All Frenchic paints are designed to be applied in two coats. Our paints have very high coverage. Even if the first coat already looks good, we always recommend applying two coats to bring out the full depth of the color and achieve the durability intended by the manufacturer. If you’re painting a very dark surface a very light color (or white to a dark color), or the surface is highly absorbent and uneven, you’ll probably need several coats. Choosing a suitable primer shade can reduce the number of topcoats needed: use a neutral gray primer when painting challenging colors. Follow the drying times on the can, bring out the pigments and protective ingredients by mixing the paint thoroughly, and let the surface dry accordingly before applying the next coat. If the surface isn’t fully covered, it’s important to repaint the entire surface rather than touch up just a few spots. This will give you an even finish.

Q: Can I paint over silicone, seals, or silicone joints?

V: Frenchic paints cannot be applied over silicone. It’s best to replace silicone joints and seals as part of your painting project for a beautiful, polished result.

K: How do I prepare a surface for painting? Do I need to sand off the old varnish?

V: Clean. Sand. Paint. Frenchic paints have excellent adhesion and bond very well to almost all surfaces. The most important thing, however, is that the surface is clean, sound, and stable. There’s no need to remove intact varnish; just sand it to roughen the surface. If old paint or varnish is flaking, it must be removed. Hand-sanding products such as a sanding sponge are perfect for this in typical home projects. Small holes, dents, and scratches can be filled with Fussy Filla. If you’re painting porous or very absorbent walls, you can apply a coat of thinned paint as the first coat. Working with wood or metal? If the substrate is stable, a thorough clean with grease-removing Sugar Soap is usually enough. For especially smooth and challenging surfaces, you can use Finishing Coat to improve adhesion. There’s no need to remove intact varnish; just sand the surface to roughen it. All cracked and flaking material must be removed.

K: Can I skip the prep work when using Frenchic paints? Especially sanding and cleaning?

V: You can’t. In short: prepare to fail if you skipped the preparation.

Cleaning the surface and at least lightly sanding it are key to achieving a durable, beautiful finish. Although Frenchic paints have excellent adhesion, all paints benefit from sanding the surface before painting. You’ll notice a huge difference in durability when you prepare the painted surface according to our instructions.

You wouldn’t paint a dirty or wet surface, would you? Paint won’t adhere to the substrate if there’s dirt, grease, wallpaper paste, or detergent in between. We always guide our customers through thorough preparation to ensure the finish is as beautiful and durable as possible. Cleaning and sanding are quick steps that are worth doing.

K: What paint do you recommend for the interior surfaces of a log cabin?

V: Breathable Frenchic wall paint is easy to recommend for log surfaces.

                                          • You can also thin the wall paint to reveal the wood grain on log walls or paneled ceilings.
                                          • All Frenchic paint ranges are suitable for cold winter spaces, such as summer cottages, sheds, playhouses, porches, boats, caravans, and motorhomes.
                                          • Read more about our award-winning wall paint.

K: I’m an interior designer and would like to recommend your products to my client. I have personal experience with your paints, and they have completely exceeded my expectations. Do you have color fans for designers?

A: Unfortunately, the designers’ color fan decks are sold out, but you can put together color sheets for yourself and your customer from Peel & Stick color samples. If you’d like to open a business account with our online store, contact us by email: moi@frenchicpaint.fi

Q: I’m painting my kitchen cabinet doors with Frenchic paint. Is a paintbrush better than a roller? The cabinet doors have recessed panels and small trim.

A: We highly recommend the TFB roller set and a small paintbrush to go with it. The microfiber TFB roller sleeve was specifically developed for cabinetmakers and flat surfaces, such as for painting kitchen cabinets, to achieve an even finish. The TFB roller glides smoothly and quickly, and you can also use it to paint trim and grooves. Especially when there’s a lot to paint, as in a kitchen, a roller is an excellent tool that lets you get a lot done in a short time. You can also apply Finishing Coats with a roller.

The more versatile your tools are, the more smoothly the painting will go.

Discover the Mini roller set here, which has everything you need: a roller frame and two different microfiber rollers.

Q: Can I paint my front door already? It’s the beginning of April.

A: We recommend painting outdoors only when the outdoor temperature is at least +10 degrees both day and night for 48 hours. If it’s too cold and damp, the paint won’t dry or cure properly, and its durability may be reduced. The surface to be painted may be too damp after the winter. Wooden surfaces must be completely dry, including on the inside. You can paint the inside of the exterior door first.  Read more about outdoor painting instructions here.

Q: Can I use the leftover wall paint to paint my garden furniture? I have some paint left over and could use it for that.

A: Yes, you can, as long as you’re aware that wall paint is suitable for painting indoor furniture and doesn’t have the protective properties of the outdoor furniture paint range Al Fresco, such as UV protection and anti-mold properties. You could apply a few coats of weather-resistant Finishing Coat to protect the painted surface if you use a paint from a range other than Al Fresco on outdoor furniture.

Q: Where can I find out which paint range is right for my project?

A: On this page: The guide to choosing a paint range provides instructions for choosing paint for the most common projects. In short: only paints from the Al Fresco range are suitable for outdoor furniture, and all ranges are suitable for painting indoor furniture.

Q: Can I paint laminate surfaces with Frenchic paints? I’d like to paint my IKEA furniture. Where can I find the instructions?

A: You can paint furniture with laminate surfaces, such as IKEA furniture, with Frenchic paints. You can read the instructions for painting laminate furniture here.

K: Where can I find out more about what Finns in particular think of Frenchic paints?

V: Start by reading some feedback and customer reviews from our Finnish customers at this link. You can also leave a product review on our website.

K: I’m painting a metal lampshade and a wooden chest of drawers and would like them to be the same color. Do I need to buy paints from different ranges for the projects, since they’re made of different materials (metal and wood)?

V: No need. The beauty of the Frenchic range lies in this very “hybrid” quality: the same paint is suitable for many different surfaces. For example, matte paint from the Al Fresco range is suitable for wood, metal, plastic, MDF, and ceramic tiles. Satin-finish Trim Paint is also suitable for wood and metal.

K: Help! I heard that you offered free shipping in your online store on International Women’s Day. Can I get it applied to my order now? I haven’t signed up for your emails.

V: Offers and discounts are available for a limited time and only to insiders who have signed up for Frenchic emails. Our online store rarely offers general discounts, so it’s worth joining the mailing list. K: Where can I find information about the properties of the paint ranges and what each range is suitable for?

V: In short: only paints from the Al Fresco range are suitable for both outdoor and indoor furniture. All Frenchic ranges are suitable for painting indoor furniture. Choose wall paint for painting walls.  Find out more here about the properties and suitability of the paint ranges.

K: Which paint is suitable for painting wooden or MDF kitchen cabinets? I’m not sure what material the doors are made of.

V: You can choose any range from the Frenchic collection. All Frenchic paints are durable enough for painting kitchen cabinets. Please note that the ranges differ in sheen, color shades, and tin sizes. Read our guide to painting kitchen cabinets.

K: Can I order paint samples from you?

V: Our small 250 ml tins are testers, and they’re available in the Lazy Range and Al Fresco ranges. If you want to explore the shades without painting, order A5-sized color samples made from real Frenchic paint: Peel & Stick sheets. Color samples are available in all colors and ranges.

Q: I want to paint my old 90s kitchen cabinets. I’m not sure what the surface is made of, maybe something plastic-like. Which of these paints is the most durable for kitchen cabinets?

A: You can choose paint from any Frenchic range; they’re all equally durable. The differences between the ranges are the shades available in each range, tin size, sheen level, and coverage. See the kitchen cabinet painting guide here.

The durability of a painted surface depends on many factors, and you can have a significant impact yourself, for example by following the manufacturer’s instructions, mixing the paint, allowing for drying times, and thoroughly cleaning surfaces before painting.

Q: I want to wax a yellowed paneled ceiling with white Frenchic wax. How much surface does a tin of wax cover?

A: A 400g tin of Frenchic wax covers approximately 10m2, depending on the porosity of the surface and the desired finish. Instructions for using the wax can be found on the product page. Frenchic wood waxes are versatile, beeswax-based products suitable for treating wood surfaces, caring for antique furniture, and applying to painted surfaces. Before treating a paneled ceiling, wash it with an effective degreaser, such as Sugar Soap cleaner.

Q: How are Frenchic paints different from other paint brands?

A: That’s a pretty broad question, and there’s no short answer. Frenchic paints have many completely new features that you won’t find in other paint brands, such as convenient versatility: The same paint works on many different surface materials, so you can save on renovations by using it for several different projects. The versatile Frenchic range is the perfect choice for all kinds of everyday renovation projects. Explore the guides on our website and try the paint for your own renovation project.

As a bonus, the paints dry quickly and create an exceptionally smooth finish. Beautiful muted shades that are very similar to our heritage shades. A stylish, durable & washable matte finish.

Q: I've heard that 'chalk paints' are not high-quality or durable. How is Frenchic different from other chalk paints?

A: You have certainly heard correctly; there are many kinds of paint ranges on the market, and their quality varies.

                                          • The award-winning Frenchic Paint® has set new standards for furniture painting and made it even easier and more fun - if you have previously thought chalk paint was not durable or practical, now is the time to try Frenchic.

Q: Can I mix Finishing Coat into the paint to make the finish more durable?

A: We do not recommend mixing Finishing Coat or any other product into the paint, because it will not make the finish more durable: it will not add a new protective layer to the surface, as applying it separately would. However, we know that many of our customers do this at their own risk and with full knowledge of the official instructions. We recommend following the manufacturer's instructions for using the products. Finishing Coat is easy to apply and dries quickly, in about 15-20 minutes. Read the product instructions.

Q: Can I use wall paint on furniture? I have a lot to paint, and a 2.5-liter tin would be just the right amount.

A: Yes, absolutely. The great thing about the Frenchic range is that our paints are versatile, durable, and officially tested for use on several different surfaces. You can use wall paint on furniture, wooden stairs, wooden floors, kitchen cabinets, walls, ceilings, brick walls... Normal wear does not require a topcoat, but if the painted surface will experience heavier-than-normal wear, you can add Finishing Coat to protect it.

Q: Can I paint kitchen countertops with these paints? If so, which range should I use?

A: We do not recommend painting kitchen countertops. Kitchen countertops are used and wear very differently from ordinary furniture. However, many of our customers have painted their kitchen countertops; some projects succeed, others do not. Bear in mind that a painted surface will not withstand cutting or hot dishes, so be realistic and consider your own usage habits when deciding whether to paint. Previously oiled countertops should not be painted.

Q: How did it go again - do I sand first or wash?

A: Wash first. Then sand, and wash again if needed. Remember: always work on a clean, dry surface, whether sanding or painting. If you sand a dirty surface, grease and dirt will clog your sanding tool, making it unusable very quickly.

Q: Where can I find out which paint range is right for my project?

A: This page, Guide to choosing a paint range, provides guidance on choosing paint for common projects.

Q: Should I give it a try? I haven’t done much painting before.

A: If you haven’t painted much before or haven’t tried Frenchic paints yet, we recommend starting with our award-winning Lazy Range. Its features will help you achieve a beautiful finish with ease.

Q: I’d like a little more shine over Al Fresco paint. What do you recommend?

A: You can apply the non-toxic, water-based Finishing Coat over the painted surface to give it a glossy finish.

Q: Does drywall need to be primed before painting?

A: Frenchic wall paints already contain primer, so you don’t need a separate primer to treat new drywall. You can use thinned Frenchic wall paint for the first coat.

                                          • You can apply the primer with a sprayer, roller, or brush, using thinned Frenchic paint.
                                          • The purpose of priming is to seal the porous surface of drywall before applying the topcoat.
                                          • You don’t need to thin Frenchic wall paint for the topcoat
                                          • For painting walls, always choose a paint from the wall paint range

Q: I'm thinking of painting an old bookcase. Are these paints suitable for my project even though the surface probably isn't real wood? I'm not sure what material the surface is.

A: Yes, absolutely! One of the best features of these paints is that they work on many different surfaces: plastic, MDF, metal, wood, brick, concrete, tile...

Painting with Frenchic paints is quite simple

                                          1. Thoroughly clean grease and dirt from the surface to be painted
                                          2. Rinse off the detergent you used
                                          3. Sand or roughen the surface. Wipe away the dust.
                                          4. Apply at least two coats of thoroughly mixed paint. Follow the drying times for each coat.
                                          5. There it is!

K: I want to paint the inside of an old caravan / car. Which paint range is suitable for painting the interior surfaces of a caravan?

V: You can choose any range; they are all suitable for plastic and MDF surfaces, as well as unheated spaces. K: How long does the first coat of wall paint take to dry? Overnight? What about paints in the Al Fresco range?

V: Just two hours. Frenchic paints are the fastest-drying paints on the market, so you can genuinely make progress on your renovation the same day.

                                          Drying times between coats:

                                          • Al Fresco range: 2h
                                          • Wall paint: 2h
                                          • Trim Paint: 4h
                                          • Lazy Range: 1h
                                          • Topcoats: 20min
                                          • Waxes: 30min -1h if you polish the surface.

K: Can I return paint I bought from you? I’ve changed my mind.

V: Our online store has a standard return policy and we provide comprehensive return instructions. However, we want to emphasize that liquids - in other words, mailing a paint can - are challenging, if only because of the risk of leaks.

The returned product must arrive back at the warehouse in saleable condition, without dents. The product must be unopened and unused. Our website offers plenty of guidance and information so our customers can make the right purchasing decision.

Returns also contribute to increased transport emissions and, consequently, environmental impacts. Our online store has a very low return rate because our customers make considered purchases.

For choosing a shade, it’s worth using Peel & Stick shade cards before choosing paint for larger projects.

K: I would have loved to use my gorgeous go-to green, the Wise Old Sage shade, on the living room walls, but it isn’t available as wall paint. Is there any chance it will be added to the range?

V: There is hope - follow this page and join our email list to be the first to hear about new products and shades, and get other benefits throughout the year.

K: Do you have Black Friday discounts?

V: No. We have never taken part in Black Friday. Read more.

K: The topcoat dried light gray and streaky over the black paint. All the brush marks are visible. Is the surface ruined now? What can I do?

A: Don't worry, you can fix this by applying a fresh coat of paint and starting again. Most likely, the coating was applied too thickly and unevenly.

When using a Top Coat, follow the product instructions, which you can find on our website on the product page or on the side of the tin. Naturally, imperfections show up more on dark surfaces than on light ones.

                                          How to use Top Coats:

                                          • 1) Shake the product in the bottle.
                                          • 2) Pour the liquid into a shallow container (a lidded tub works well if you need to take breaks)
                                          • 3) Dip a damp (not wet) sponge or roller into the liquid and apply a thin coat to the surface using long, parallel strokes. Watch the video for instructions.
                                          • 4) Let each coat dry according to the instructions before applying the next one, about 15-20 min.
                                          • 5) Apply 2-4 thin coats. That's it!

Watch the video to see how to apply a coating to your kittchen cabinet doors. Coats that are too thick, or coating that hasn't been shaken and is applied with a brush, can dry unevenly. We always recommend testing products before starting a larger project, on an inconspicuous area such as the back or a separate piece.

Q: Can you paint parquet flooring?

A: Absolutely, and the instructions are the usual ones: wash the surface thoroughly, then rinse off any detergent residue with clean water. Inspect the clean surface: sand and fill any dents and scratches as needed. Apply at least two coats of wall paint suitable for floors. Let it dry, and take care with the paint, especially for the first few days. For example, avoid walking on it with shoes and keep pets out of the room.

Protect the painted floor surface going forward, and put felt pads on furniture legs, etc. Clean with mild detergents; don't steam clean, and avoid abrasive cleaning tools. You can find photos of painted floors and more in our Facebook groups. If the floor gets heavy wear, for example from pets, consider applying a Top Coat. Read more here.

Q: What's the easiest way to touch up scratches in a painted surface?

A: Lightly sand the surface and repaint. The general recommendation in the industry is to repaint the entire area to avoid differences in shade. But small scratches can be discreetly touched up by dabbing with a cotton swab or a small sponge. However, it's important to clean and sand the surface before touch-ups. If the area gets heavy wear, consider applying a Top Coat over the paint. TTC, or Tuff Top Coat, is a matte protective coating and does not change the paint color. You can apply the Top Coat no sooner than 48 hours after painting.

Q: Is Loof or Blackjack a completely black shade, or a brownish black?

A: Black. Perfect black. The most beautiful black paint you’ve ever used. Thanks to the name change, all blacks now have the same name: Blackjack.

Q: Can old kitchen cabinet doors with MDF surfaces be painted? And which paint should I use?

A: Yes, you can, and many people do. You can choose any shade from any Frenchic range for indoor furniture. Join our Facebook group, where you can see hundreds of kitchens painted by our customers and will surely find a photo similar to your own.   You can read the instructions for painting laminate furniture here.

Q: Do these paints really last on tiles?

A: Yes! The manufacturer has officially tested the durability of the paints on certain surfaces, and ceramic tile is one of them. The ranges approved for painting tiles are: Al Fresco and wall paint. You can read the instructions and tips for painting ceramic tiles here.

Q: Can you paint over Frenchic wall paint with another brand of paint as usual - or vice versa?

A: Absolutely! You can paint over Frenchic paint with another brand of paint or with paint from another Frenchic range - or vice versa.

Q: I’d like to see different wall paint shades paired with furniture.

A: The best place to explore shades in different settings is the Facebook group, where you can see photos shared by our customers.

Q: Why do you refer to chalk paint on your website? Wouldn’t chalkboard paint be the correct term?

A: We use the term chalk paint because it has become the established colloquial term for a matte paint containing chalk.  The ingredients in Frenchic paints, as listed on the side of the paint tin: Chalk and Clay.  However, the word chalk can also mean limestone. You can think of Frenchic as a so-called “second-generation” chalk paint, a more advanced hybrid version of the paint. Read more about it here.

Q: There’s no Frenchic stockist in my area. It would be wonderful to have Frenchic here too!

A: Absolutely! You can recommend us to a local business or entrepreneur, or email us a tip about a suitable business: moi@frenchicpaint.fi. Thanks for thinking of us!

Q: Can I paint a potbelly stove with the lovely colors in the Trim Paint range?

A: Yes, you can. Trim Paint is ideal for painting metal. Instructions for painting potbelly stoves and radiators here.

Q: Are the Al Fresco paints the most durable of these?

A: They are all equally durable and washable. Al Fresco paints also contain protective additives needed outdoors, such as anti-mold agents and UV protection.

Q: Do these paints require special brushes? Won’t an ordinary brush do?

A: Round and oval brushes are ideal for Frenchic paints—the best possible choice. Once you’ve tried them, you won’t want to paint with an ordinary narrow brush again! But other styles will work too, as long as your painting tools are clean and in good condition. Invest in long-lasting, durable tools and avoid disposable ones.

Q: Would it be safe to paint surfaces that aren’t officially recommended? For example, a stone-tile floor, a garden fence, or a rag rug painted on outdoor steps, etc.?

A: If you decide to paint, be prepared to carry out maintenance and touch-up painting each year, depending on how much the surfaces are used and where they are located.

Q: Could you add a wish list to your online store?

Q: I want to paint a wall with Lazy Range paint. Will that work?

A: We always recommend using the wall paint range for painting walls. Sometimes the wall to be painted is small, and a tin from another range may be more convenient, or you may only find your preferred shade in another range. If you decide to use something other than wall paint to paint a wall, bear these points in mind: only wall paint has an ultra-matte finish and is breathable. You may need more paint than usual when painting a wall with a paint from another range.

Q: I want to mix a completely unique shade of my own. Can Frenchic ranges be mixed together? For example, shades from the Al Fresco and Lazy Range collections?

A: Absolutely! You can mix any shades together when using the paints on indoor surfaces. For outdoor surfaces: mix only shades from the Al Fresco range. Click here to read more about mixing paints.

Q: What can a small 250 ml tin cover?

A: Frenchic goes a long way: a small 250 ml tin is usually enough to paint 2-3 dining chairs, two bedside tables, or an interior door. It can also be used to paint the outside of a small chest of drawers or an exterior door. However, paint coverage is affected by many factors, such as the color, condition, and material of the surface being painted, as well as the painter’s technique and choice of painting tools. The manufacturer’s coverage estimate is based on a neutral-colored, smooth, non-absorbent surface. A small 250 ml tin covers 3.5 m².

Q: I’d like to collaborate with you on Instagram. What should I do?

A: That’s great! We’re happy to work with smaller accounts too. Read more and fill out the form here. We’ll be in touch.

Q: I design interiors for clients and would like to recommend your colors for their projects. Where can I order professional color samples?

A: Email moi@frenchicpaint.fi to open a business wholesale account or order the color charts you need here.

Q: I’d like to paint my kitchen cabinets. How do I estimate how much paint I’ll need?

A: Start with two 750 ml tins if you have a standard-sized kitchen. One 750 ml tin is usually enough to paint the cabinets in a small studio apartment or cottage kitchen. You will need more paint if you decide to paint the inside of the cabinets too, or if you use a sprayer. You may need more coats than usual if there is a big difference between the old and new colors, or if you forget to stir the paint thoroughly. In general, Frenchic paints require 2-3 coats, and painting the cabinets in a standard family kitchen takes 2-3 x 750 ml tins.

Q: Can these paints be used to paint high-gloss kitchen cabinet doors?

A: Yes, you can. Glossy, slippery, smooth surfaces need to be thoroughly roughened. Find the full instructions here.

Q: How do I care for a painted surface?

A: Use only mild cleaning products, without bleaching or disinfecting agents. Steam cleaning is not suitable for painted surfaces, such as floors. Care instructions for painted surfaces.

Q: Should I apply a Topcoat to protect a painted tabletop?

A: Definitely! Although Frenchic paints dry to form highly durable surfaces, kitchen tables are often subject to more wear and tear than other surfaces in the home. We recommend protecting tabletops, especially kitchen tabletops, with a Topcoat. You can choose a matte or glossy finish. Both Topcoats are also suitable for outdoor use.

Q: Which Frenchic paint is suitable for a concrete wall?

A: We recommend our wall paint range for painting walls. Instructions for painting walls.

Q: Can you paint an IKEA Kallax shelf? And what paint should you use?

A: Yes, you can, and many people do. You can choose any shade from the Frenchic range for indoor furniture.   Instructions for painting laminate furniture.

Q: How can I get a bad smell out of an old piece of furniture?

A: Wash the furniture and let it dry. Then treat all surfaces of the furniture with Finishing Coat according to the instructions. That’s it!

Q: Do you have a suitable product for treating an exposed section of old brick wall so it won’t collect dust and dirt and splashes won’t show?

A: Treat the brick or concrete surface with Finishing Coat according to the instructions. You can choose either glossy Finishing Coat or matte Tuff Top Coat. A 500ml bottle covers about 7m2.

Q: When should I choose a cool paint shade for walls?

A: As a general rule, choose a cool shade for the walls if the room’s windows face south and the light is bright and warm. Cool shades can also make a small space feel larger. Sometimes a cool shade can feel stark - usually, a warm shade feels cozy and inviting.

Order the Color Guide to your home, with descriptions of all shades and color types, plus guidance on the character of colors. You’ll also find interior design tips on our website for creating atmosphere in a space. Start here.

Q: How can I tell which shade is warm and which is cool?

A: On our website, each shade has a description and a mention of its type.

Q: Why is the color on the paint tin label different from the paint inside the tin?

A: The sticker on the side of the paint tin is not a shade sample, but a printed label. Choose your paint shade from the Frenchic color chart or the Peel & Stick shade cards; they are made with real paint.

Q: What are the gloss levels of the paint ranges?

You can choose Blackjack from the wall paint range for painting walls, Trim Paint for doors and trim, Lazy Range (formerly Loof) for indoor furniture, and Al Fresco for indoor and outdoor surfaces.

                                          • We’ve made sure you can achieve a durable, beautiful finish as easily as possible.
                                          • Frenchic paints have innovative, award-winning features that other paint ranges don’t: 'Self Levelling', 'Self Sealing' and 'Self Priming' - these features give you an even, hard-wearing finish without waxing, varnishing or priming.
                                          • Frenchic paints are exceptionally easy to apply. Richly pigmented, high-coverage Frenchic paints are full-bodied, almost drip-free, and much more.

Give it a try and you're sure to love it! Start by trying our award-winning Lazy Range, with wax already included in the paint.

Q: I've only used ordinary furniture paints on furniture before. Will Frenchic paint last on furniture or a wall, or will the color come off on clothes?

A: You can confidently paint your furniture or a wall with paints from the Frenchic range. Frenchic Paint® is also a furniture paint, made for that purpose and tested for it.

                                          • For example, paints in the Lazy Range come with liquid wax already included, so you can forget old-fashioned waxing and demanding varnishing! The finish is durable with just a coat of paint.
                                          • Frenchic paints dry quickly, but the wax in the paint cures over three weeks and only then reaches its final hardness.
                                          • The protective properties of the Al Fresco range also cure over three weeks. The surface becomes very durable and wipeable.
                                          • Our wall paints are also top of the range! They are certified EN71:3 and have a ISO11998 Class 1 wet scrub rating. The result is a beautiful, even, ultra-matte finish.
                                          • Other features of paints in the Frenchic range, such as their formula, matte finish, coverage and ease of application, also differ from ordinary furniture paints.

Try it yourself, and you'll notice the difference right away!

Q: I've noticed that almost everything is painted with Frenchic paints! Would I dare to paint ceramic tiles? Or kitchen cabinets?

A: Yes! Paints in the Al Fresco range are officially approved by the manufacturer for painting ceramic tiles.

Q: I'm painting a drop-leaf chest of drawers. How much paint do I need?

A: A small 250 ml tin is enough for two coats if you're painting only the exterior in a single shade. Painting the inside and back will use more paint.

Q: How are these paints different from other, ordinary paints?

A: Frenchic paints are a brand-new kind of hybrid paint range, tested by the manufacturer for use on many different surfaces. For example, the Al Fresco range, which has been voted the best garden furniture paint in Britain, is suitable for painting indoor surfaces and outdoor furniture.

Other common uses for paints in the Al Fresco range include kitchen cabinets, exterior doors, garden furniture, caravan interiors, panels, ceilings, interior doors, tiled walls, radiators, wood-burning stoves, and various indoor furnishings such as bookcases and chests of drawers.

Al Fresco paints have been tested on many different surfaces, such as plastic, MDF, wood, metal, and ceramic tile. This means you can paint many different items with one product and reduce paint waste during your renovation.

The Al Fresco range also has primer already included in the paint, so you don't need a separate adhesion primer.

All Frenchic paints contain protective agents that withstand wear and washing, so you don't need varnish or wax to protect the paint. Chalk in the ingredients gives the paint a beautiful matte finish.

No mass production. Not like everyone else. Just your ideas and a little creative boldness with color.
