Pine is an excellent material to paint, as it takes paint well and often produces a beautiful result.
So don’t throw away good, sturdy, intact furniture; give it a new lease on life with quality furniture paint.
Odorless and drip-free Frenchic paint is pleasant to use indoors. It also dries quickly and leaves a beautifully smooth finish.
Painting with Frenchic paints is quite simple
- Thoroughly clean grease and dirt from the surface to be painted
- Rinse off the detergent you used
- Sand or roughen the surface. Wipe away the dust.
- Apply at least two coats of thoroughly mixed paint. Follow the drying times for each coat.
- That’s it!
- Dark/black knots often affect how many coats of paint are needed, especially when painting a light color. Here’s a tip: paint the first coat in a neutral gray.

Knots and preparing the wood surface
Knots in pine furniture can cause problems. If the surface is new or has been sanded, first treat the knots with Frenchic’s fast-drying finishing coat. This prevents resin from bleeding through the paint.
If the furniture has an old, intact varnished finish, it’s best not to remove it. The old varnish protects against resin bleeding through the knots, and you can paint directly over it - just roughen the varnished surface first.
The finishing coat is also worth using as a primer on new, porous wood surfaces. This prevents the wood from absorbing too much paint and gives you a more even result with less paint.
Neutralizing dark knots and orange tones
Dark knots may show through light-colored paint. This problem can be avoided by painting the first coat in a gray shade, such as Al Fresco range City Slicker or Swankypants. The gray shade also neutralizes any orange or yellowish tones in the wood. One coat of gray is enough as a primer.
Choose a high-quality chalk paint for painting furniture
Frenchic Paint paints are high-quality, durable for everyday use and water-based. They are ideal for painting furniture and interiors. Avoid painting furniture with paints intended for crafts.

How to choose a shade for painting indoor furniture?

Different painting techniques for pine furniture
With Frenchic paints, you can try several styles, such as:
-
Color wash: Apply thinned paint and wipe off the excess to leave the wood grain visible. For example, the White Wash technique, done with white paint, works well for a Scandinavian or boho style.
-
Weathered wood style: Use a gray shade, such as Salt of The Earth or Stone Rosie, to give wooden furniture a natural, weathered gray look.
