Motorhome Makeover: New Life Glowing with Color
I set out on a new kind of journey with the transformation of my motorhome, I wanted to stand out from the usual and bring a touch of my own personality.
The traditional whites, beiges and grays were left behind when I decided to make room for colors and bold choices that bring a smile to my face every day. At first, I only knew that I wanted green cabinets and a lot of color, but as the renovation progressed, the choices became concrete.
Frenchic paints found the perfect shades, such as the wonderfully deep and bohemian Victory Lane from the Al Fresco series, as well as the cheerful yellow Daffs. In addition to these, the delicious Plum Pudding from the Lazy Range series and McFee Trim Paint were added to complete the playful ensemble.
I also wanted to give space to creativity and often during the process the mood may change, so I was really happy when I also got the opportunity to mix and tone new colors myself. I'm really happy with our collaboration that made this colorful adventure possible!
Plenty and Great Colors
Frenchic's paints combine naturalness, durability and recyclability, which is important to me. The paints are mineral-rich, but still do not compromise color saturation or saturation.
Many have already admired my transformation and said: "It looks like it was done by a professional! How did you get the surface so smooth?". The answer lies in the composition of the paint and its intelligent drying surface.
Frenchic's paint surface is in a class of its own when it dries!
Frenchic's paints are also really plentiful and very pleasant to apply. I also used other, different brands of leftover paint from previous renovations in the makeover, and I experienced a big difference between these paints. Frenchic's goals really live up to their reputation!
Brilliant colors, playfulness and bold choices
During the process, my vision started to become clearer step by step. I played around with different ideas, looked for inspiration from my old travel photos, Pinterest and Frenchic's facebook group.
I decided to boldly try different combinations and sometimes it produced results and sometimes there were misjudgments. The best thing, however, is that you can always change your mind and you can always switch on from the ground.
In the end, the colorful streets and houses of Lisbon served as inspiration. I wanted to bring a lot of bold colors and playfulness to my motorhome that would make me happy every morning, regardless of the weather. I used different shades and boldly combined them, creating a happy and energetic atmosphere in the space.
Steps towards the Perfect Outcome
Good preparation is the basis of a successful project. Frenchic offers excellent instructions for good preparation. According to the instructions, I carefully washed and sanded the smooth surfaces, but the jaggedness of the walls and ceiling was enough with just a paint wash.
Frenchic's own Sugar Soap easily removed grease, stubborn dirt and dust. These preparation steps should not be skipped!
When preparing the motorhome, you should also set aside time to remove cabinet doors and small parts, such as pulls and screws.
After careful preparation, there was still taping to be done. The Frog Tape found in Frenchic's online store gave the best result , because it does not let paint behind the adhesive surface or leave a jagged surface after removal.
I was surprised at how much time it took to prepare everything, and I learned that it could take up to three days to prepare just the cabinets, for example, before I could paint.
The Trio of Painting Techniques: Find Your Favorite
Roller: TFB - 15mm - Semi Smooth Plus - Microfiber roller was chosen as the tool. This was an absolutely brilliant choice as it leaves a very even mark and works great on all surfaces. Careful washing made it possible to use the rollers again and again.
Brush: Frenchic's own oval brushes made it possible to paint corners and precise spots. The motorhome has indestructible corners and places that require meticulous work, so in addition to these, I used my own soft and small brushes.
Spray painting: Fun, but the most challenging of the three. In spray painting, the paint must be diluted with water by about 10-15%, which of course reduces coverage. I used this technique with Victory Lane Al Fresco shade on the cabinet doors. The end result was a very even and successful surface after four layers.
The Joy of Recycling: Use Surplus Paints Creatively
Frenchic's goals were well proportioned, and there were just enough of them for the transformation. I'm going to use the remaining shades for my art, because these paints are perfect for e.g. pouring technique and they make really impressive interior paintings.
Alternatively, I plan to give surplus paint to friends or offer
for example via social media for willing DIY project lovers.
Frenchic's values – environmental awareness, sustainability and recycling – are also important to me, so this project felt particularly meaningful.
Henriika's Tips:
1. Follow the instructions and do not skip preparations
2. Double the use of time compared to the original plans
3. Play with colors boldly - don't be afraid of mistakes, because you can always paint on top
4. Seek inspiration from others who have done similar projects - Frenchic's Facebook group is great for this
5. If inspiration or motivation runs out, take a break and come back to the project later
6. Know how to finish in time, because endless chasing can take away the joy of doing
7. Enjoy the ideation, the process and the end result
Thank you Frenchic for making this amazing transformation possible and giving me the tools to realize my vision. Thanks to our collaboration, my RV is now more colorful and inspiring than I could have ever imagined. I am extremely grateful for this journey, which has been full of creativity and joy.
Towards new adventures
My RV makeover is now complete for now, and I'm now going to enjoy colorful adventures and my handprint.
Even though the main project is finished, I'm still going to add different patterns and details, but I'll give the body and mind some time to calm down after a long renovation and space for creativity.
