When planning to paint a panelled ceiling, consider these points before you start
Choosing a Frenchic range
You can choose paint from any Frenchic range, as this is an indoor surface.
Your choice may be guided by these factors:
- How much do you have to paint?
- Would you like to choose a specific beautiful color?
- Do you want the shade to provide full coverage, or would you like the wood grain to remain slightly visible?
If you have a lot to paint, a large 2.5-litre container can be an economical option. If you only have a small room to paint, such as a small kitchen, children's room, or bathroom, you can also choose a shade from another range, available in a 750 ml container.
Thin the paint to keep the wood grain visible
If you want to leave the wood grain slightly visible, you can make the painting job more affordable than usual by thinning your chosen shade. The right dilution ratio needs to be tested for your particular panelled ceiling, but it is often somewhere between 20-40%.
Tip! A beautifully subtle shade can be achieved by thinning a light beige, for example Cool Beans or Salt of The Earth.
Choosing a shade
Choose boldly and give the space a whole new feel!
Sky blues, pale pinks, or soothing beiges work well in children's rooms. In small spaces, such as a bathroom, you can perhaps be bolder - dark shades create an intimate atmosphere and a distinctive finish. You can brighten up everyday life in the kitchen too with a beautiful berry pink ceiling or a sunny yellow one!

Coverage
In general, panelled surfaces with all their grooves naturally use more paint than smooth surfaces.
If you're painting new, untreated paneling, this will also increase paint consumption, as the new wood absorbs the first coats of paint into its surface.
If you're painting an old, orange, yellowed pine or spruce paneled ceiling with dark knots white or a light color, the darkest areas will determine how many coats you need to cover the knots. Dark paint colors require fewer coats than white or light colors.
Tip! When painting a dark, yellowed, knotty paneled ceiling white, it's worth applying the first coat in gray – one coat is enough to tone down the orange and means you'll need fewer white coats. You could choose a gray shade such as City Slicker or Swanky Pants from the Al Fresco range.
