LIVING ROOM PAINTING
When washing the wall is not enough...
Read about the renovation of Mari-Anne and Janne's guest room.
"From planning the renovation of a room and choosing the right paint shade to the finished room, it's an incredibly long journey – at least if you ask me"; says Mari-Anne.
Of course, it is rewarding to see, as a "brain worker", what you can get on hand in time and how the work progresses. Before getting to paint, I also had a moment to calm down. The preparatory work had to be done carefully to obtain a good, uniform paint surface.
The walls of our small bedroom were a good example of how different and time-consuming preparatory actions the walls can require before painting.
Washing, rinsing and drying was enough for two walls. If the walls are not very dirty, just washing with water is enough.
However, I prefer using Sugar Soap, because at least we have grease and other dirt around the air conditioning duct, window and light switches, which won't come off with just water.
One wall was like cheese with holes left by my decoration obsessions. There have been many different types of boards, shelves and lamps, always according to the current preference and a little bit of the trend. The window wall had a disturbing crack in the seam of the boards.
It would have been pointless to just put a package on it. The crack would have immediately renewed due to temperature fluctuations.
The surface had to be cut off from the plates and the support net had to be wrapped over the crack.
I had hoped that this smoothing out the holes and crack would have been enough, but no. This time it was the man's head that was spinning that it won't be good like this.
Usually it's me, whose quality bar is high. With a wide trowel, he then applied a thin layer of plaster all over these two walls. We had to let the walls dry again before sanding.
For this job too, the man found a machine - a sanding support with a 180 sanding net, to which he could attach the vacuum cleaner pipe so that the dust did not settle all over the room. After sanding, I still had to wipe the dust off the walls.
We finally got to paint and with the power of two rollers
Chalk wall paint and Whiter than white and Swayed were chosen as the paint this time. This has become our go-to paint, as it does not require a primer.
The surface becomes velvety, as long as there is enough paint in the roller and the roller is at least medium piled.
The new layer can be painted in less than a couple of hours. It is also important to me that the paint does not smell and cause allergy symptoms.
The shade selection was successful, and we are more than satisfied with the end result.
