Can you paint kitchen cabinets yourself?
Yes, you can. Choose easy-to-use Frenchic paints for painting cabinets. They level beautifully and dry quickly.
Painting kitchen cabinets gives a familiar kitchen a fresh new look
When the kitchen cabinets are functional and the doors are in good condition, painting is one way to refresh their look. A lighter shade brightens the overall look, a dark color adds definition, and green pairs beautifully with wooden countertops. You can also complete the transformation with new handles.
What paint is suitable for kitchen cabinets?
Frenchic Al Fresco and Trim Paint are suitable for painting kitchen cabinets. Choose a range according to the material being painted, the color, and the finish you want:
- Al Fresco: a matte option for cabinet doors and furniture.
- Trim Paint: a satin finish with a subtle sheen.
- Wall paint: an ultra-matte finish
Before you start, check that the product you choose is suitable for the surface of your cabinets.
Can laminate or MDF cabinet doors be painted?
Many coated cabinet doors can be painted if the coating is intact and firmly attached. Paint adhesion depends on the surface material and preparation. For MDF doors, it is important to distinguish bare MDF from a previously painted or coated surface, as they require different preparation.
Peeling paint, loose film, or a board swollen by moisture must be repaired before painting. Paint will not reattach a loose coating.
Can you paint kitchen cabinets without sanding or primer?
Al Fresco, Wall Paint, and Trim Paint range paints already contain primer and typically do not need a separate primer on a suitable, properly prepared surface. However, this does not mean you can paint without preparing the surface.
Grease accumulates on kitchen surfaces, especially around the stove and handles. Wash the doors and other surfaces to be painted thoroughly, rinse off any detergent residue, and let them dry. Sand the surface according to the painting instructions and remove any dust before painting. The material or condition of the surface may require a separate primer.
How do you get a neat finish when painting cabinet doors?
Remove the handles and, if needed, the doors to make the work easier. Mark the positions of the doors and hinges so you can reassemble them easily after painting.
Use a high-quality brush or paint roller suitable for the surface. Apply the paint evenly and let each coat dry according to the product instructions. Avoid repeatedly working over a surface that has already started to dry.
How much paint is needed for kitchen cabinets?
Calculate the total area to be painted, including the door edges, backs, and any cabinet frames to be painted. Paint coverage depends on the paint range, the number of coats, and the surface’s absorbency. A major color change may require additional coats.
Check the coverage information for the product you choose. The number of cabinet doors alone does not tell you how much paint you will need.
When can you use painted kitchen cabinets?
Follow the paint range’s drying and curing times. Paint that is dry to the touch has not yet reached its full durability, so handle the doors carefully at first. Avoid knocks, heavy scrubbing, and leaving water on the painted surface.
